World War II Has Ended!!!!

The Wars in Europe and Japan are finally over (hurrah), Hitler and Mussolini are dead and Tojo has been sentenced to death! FDR has also passed, Churchill has been voted out of power sadly (but he will be back,), and Stalin remains in power in the Soviet Union. The world now has to work to rebuild itself from the destruction from one of deadliest and costliest wars the world has ever seen. Death tolls are mind-boggling, and whole cities and nations have been destroyed. The only major World War II leader still in power is Stalin (god bless your soul Churchill), and no one can agree on what should be done for any of the allied powers or what should be done to the axis powers. Can there be any worse punishment for Germany or Japan that what has already happened?
Write 2-3 paragraphs on what you think should be done to restore peace and order to the world after 1945. This is partial fact but also your opinion on what needs to be done. Then respond to one other post. Then sign off your project for blogging from World War I to World War II is done!

Turning Points

World War II is raging on and it is the summer of 1942, Hitler has invaded Russia (breaking the non-aggression pact) and has advanced to the gates of Leningrad, Stalingrad, and Moscow, the only thing that ever slows Hitler down it seems like is winter. (Well winter and Churchill’s hott manliness.) The execution of Jewish people grows in Nazi occupied lands, as does the theft of art, money, and slaves to work in Germany. Germany is starting to feel the effects of war from occasional bombings and rationing, but overall life is not that terrible yet.
America was been attacked by Japan on December 7th 1941, and has officially entered the war, but will not get many troops to Asia or Africa/Europe until the summer of 1942. Japanese living in America have been sent to internment camps where they will live for most of the war. The Americans fear they are spies, although there is little to no evidence to support this. However, many fear that Japan has woken a sleeping Giant. Victory for the allies still looks somewhat unlikely at least for many years at this point, as the Germans, Japanese, and Italians still control much of Europe and Asia. However, there is hope on the horizon and many believe the tide of the war is about to change. (Write a post about anything that happens including Pearl Harbor, about life in occupied lands, propaganda, up until Stalingrad and El-Alamein)

Going HARD- Blitzkrieg

World War II has started! Hitler has taken over Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Norway, Denmark, France, Netherlands, and Belgium and has been bombing Britain for months. Japan has expanded far into China and the rest of the Southeast Pacific. Meanwhile, Russia and Britain are the only major powers left fighting Germany and little ole Italy. Luckily Britain saved over 300,000 troops during the Miracle at Dunkirk otherwise it would be only the Russians left. The rest of Europe is stuck living under Nazi control, which can be terrible depending on who you are. America has passed the neutrality acts and is trying to stay out of war, although Franklin D. Roosevelt would like to help the allies with money and supplies. Many Europeans are pushing for further American intervention, because it looks like Hitler’s dream of taking over all Europe is about to come true. As a side note Winston Churchill is still the man.
Write a 2 paragraph response on your characters views, worries, and hopes now that World War II has started. Be sure to include things we have learned in class but also how your specific character would feel about these events. Respond to one other as well.

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back (it's a song)

It is 1930’s Europe and change is taking place around you rapidly, in most countries a great depression has hit and is slowly being recovered from. Dictators have taken over around the globe in Russia, Germany, and Italy, although as of 1936 many people are not sure if they are good or bad yet in fact Hitler and Stalin have both won Man of the Year awards. (Also the military has taken de facto control of Japan). Many people in Europe have high hopes for the future, but some pessimists such as the pesky Churchill in Britain are clamoring that war is on the horizon. In fact a small faction in many Democratic governments fear that some of these totalitarian states are going to push to expand soon whether it be the communists in Russia or the Fascists in Italy and Germany.
However, most people want to ignore that at this time and avoid another War and more devastation. America is a great example of this; hit by the great depression and struggling many Americans want nothing to do with war. Franklin Roosevelt is left trying to keep America as a liberal democracy as many nations around the world fall to Communism or Fascism. Britain and France are also left on this tightrope between far-left and far-right governments and struggling to survive. Write two SOLID paragraphs on your characters thoughts on what has happened in their country and perhaps across the globe since their last post after World War I. (also respond to at least one post, Due By Friday night midnight)

Febraury Vacation Homework

Happy Vacation folks,
Read this carefully because it could be a bit confusing for you. Your homework is to read the section I tell you from the link below and answer the two questions that go with it. Answer the questions in depth, preferably typed and printed up for Monday in class. The questions have to do with what Fascism is and why Benito Mussolini thought it was necessary for Italy to become a Fascist state. You should write at the very least 2 paragraphs per question probably around a page single spaced. I would read the questions first then read the reading, you may have to read it slow and almost definitely more than once to understand it. In fact if you read it too quickly you will not understand it. I know that it is on the harder side but put in your very best and solid effort. Do not copy or have anything that even looks like anybody else's when you pass it in on Monday, or else anything that looks like it was copied will be a zero.

To find the reading click the link below, and find section 23.5- The Rise of Benito Mussolini. The link should download a PDF file on your computer and then you can find the reading around page 522, although sometimes on 530 depending on your computer. Just make sure it says the rise of Benito Mussolini. If you have any questions post them on this blog, or to johnpvanderkeyl@gmail.com. Make sure you spell it right or I won't get it.

The second link will help give you a better idea of what Fascism is, but your answers must come from the primary reading.
Also enjoy vacation I know this may take up an hour of it, but hey you all need some homework grades. STAY off the streets.

World War I is Over

The Great War has ended, Germany has laid down their arms and given into the 3 demands that Wilson promised them would result at a seat at the peace table. It was a lie. Britain and France want revenge and retribution, Wilson wanted his 14 points, and Vittorio Orlando wanted to have learned English. The Treaty of Versailles is signed in June of 1919, America never even signs the treaty. 10 million men have died across Europe, for what many believe to be nothing, the Lost Generation and Lost War sentiment is spreading across Europe. Your job is to write 2 real paragraphs about how you feel about the war, do you think the peace was fair, what do you wish was different, or what else would you have done. (Keep in mind your characters beliefs). Also write a bit about your hopes for yourself and your country over the next few years.

Also watch this movie from 38 minutes to the end and write 1 thing that happened in each of the following countries after the war...
-United States
-Russia
-Germany
-also mention how did the veterans of WWI feel about the war in 2002 (in this video)
