Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back (it's a song)

It is 1930’s Europe and change is taking place around you rapidly, in most countries a great depression has hit and is slowly being recovered from. Dictators have taken over around the globe in Russia, Germany, and Italy, although as of 1936 many people are not sure if they are good or bad yet in fact Hitler and Stalin have both won Man of the Year awards. (Also the military has taken de facto control of Japan). Many people in Europe have high hopes for the future, but some pessimists such as the pesky Churchill in Britain are clamoring that war is on the horizon. In fact a small faction in many Democratic governments fear that some of these totalitarian states are going to push to expand soon whether it be the communists in Russia or the Fascists in Italy and Germany.
However, most people want to ignore that at this time and avoid another War and more devastation. America is a great example of this; hit by the great depression and struggling many Americans want nothing to do with war. Franklin Roosevelt is left trying to keep America as a liberal democracy as many nations around the world fall to Communism or Fascism. Britain and France are also left on this tightrope between far-left and far-right governments and struggling to survive. Write two SOLID paragraphs on your characters thoughts on what has happened in their country and perhaps across the globe since their last post after World War I. (also respond to at least one post, Due By Friday night midnight)

It has been 17 years since I last written to you all. I would first like to begin by saying how much being a father has matured my naive tendencies. I no longer fight to be manly, but I fight rather to protect those I care for. Just last month, savage men broke into my house and attempted to steal my family heirlooms, and my family. I loved my family too much to let them be taken away, so I pulled out my shotgun from under my bed and scared the cowards out of my house. Good thing they didn’t know the gun wasn’t loaded. Angelique and my 17 year old son, Abraham, are doing well now, but I learned that I have to be less wily and more headstrong. If I am to do something drastic or spontaneous, I will make sure that my heart is in the right place. However, there is a more pressing matter at hand that is causing all these attacks to happen- an economic crisis has hit the United States! This crisis being, called by fellows around the nation as “The Great Depression”, has took its toll on my family. Two weeks ago, savage men had broken into my bar and tried to loot all of my money and liquor. I would have scared them off along with Angelique, who had a Revolver in hand, until one had placed their hand on her and had I look on his face I didn’t like. Unfortunately for him, he is no longer living and each of his friends have to live with one eye. I am barely getting by with my inheritance from my great grandfather Jebidiah Johnson, who found a cavern lined with gold and hid it all and continued to live a life of poverty (I don’t know WHY). Anyhow, while I struggle to survive and hold my family intact, I caught wind of the happenings ACROSS the shining sea!

Russia, Germany, and Italy have gained dictators and are now Fascist/Communist states. Not many are concerned about this and neither am I. However, I have turned my attention to Germany in particular as it rises into its ‘Third Reich’, being led by none other than Adolf Hitler. This Hitler character that had caught my attention 17 years ago, as the World War had ended, and has become Chancellor of Germany. Along with this, he is followed by and is leading a brutal organization known as the Nazis. They are, from what I have been told, Anti-Semites and are at war with Communism and the Jewish community. I have heard gruesome tales of ghettos, concentration camps, and gas chambers. One of my good friends, Elmo Wagner, has been silent for 8 years and I can only hope that this has somehow not affected her. I have heard that my British friend, Jules Rutherford, has continued to show the world how he believes Britain is the dominant country (aside from what I have said about Britain, I respect his nationalism). However, Britain has been losing money as well since America has had nothing to trade! The once mighty League of Nations has also grown silent and many are worried that another War is on the horizon- maybe even a new WORLD War! Based on the devastation occurring across the world, the fronts may not just be in Europe, but maybe even here in America! I have to, and WILL protect Abraham and Angelique at all costs, but at the same time I feel obligated to journey to Europe and help my friends through these dark days!

    1. Thank you for thinking of me, Alexander. I assure you everything is fine here in Dresden. My daughter died, and there was an awful depression here, but now that Hitler took over, things are actually better. We hosted the Olympics a few years ago. I hope the Great Depression has not taken a great toll on your family. I wish you and your family plenty of Earl Grey tea.

Things are still rough, but we'll manage. By the way, I don't trust this Hitler character. Be on your guard and contact me if you so need it.

  4. Bonjour everyone, it is I, Jean-Luc, once again. It's been awhile since I've done this, so I might as well start by getting you all up to speed. From what I gather no one here is having much luck as far as money goes, but here in France we're managing to scrape by on some of Germany's money and a few crops. I managed to find a job digging artillery shells out of the rubble of the towns that got destroyed, so I guess that's kind of a plus. I haven't heard from Jean and Augustine recently but I can only assume they share a similar story. Also, we have a wall now that keeps out Germans, not like they'll go around like they did last time that would be WAY too obvious.
Our government isn't the greatest right now though.I sincerely hope we don't end up communist like Russia or Fascist like Italy and Germany because we could go either way.Hopefully we can get out of this world wide depression ( I don't know why the Americans think its great) because honestly I don't think any of our economies could handle it for much longer. As a quick side note, has any body heard from Japan? I can't say I've ever seen a post from anyone over there, whats wrong do they not have internet yet?

Hello there fellow Germans! Times are starting to look better with this new Hitler fellow. I am quite suspicious of what is going on with some of my neighbors though. My Jewish neighbor's house was ransacked a few months ago and he just went missing a week or so ago. Before he went missing we were going out to our local beer hall and all of a sudden they would not let him in just because he was Jewish! Can you believe the nerve of some people. Now walking around these signs are being put up that say Jews are not allowed in. It is ridiculous! I have walked by many fenced off areas of Berlin when I travel there and these fences have stars of David on them. Almost everyone around me is fascist right now. I will still stay faithful to democracy but I am being frowned upon a lot now. Some of my friends from Berlin who are Communist are also missing now too. My sons are out on the front again fighting against basically everyone who is not German. I am worried for them because we have many foes and America and Russia are very strong. As much as I hate them I have to admit they have become a force throughout this past decade. Well that is all I have for today! I will keep everyone updated on my Jewish and Communist friends and let you know how they are doing!

I don't know why Hitler is even going through with this plan of "exterminating" Jews!!!! I once thought that I was safer than most people because I am wealthier than most Jews. However, during this violent stage in history, no Jewish citizens are safe...

  7. Agmon Weil speaking here, I sincerely apologize for the time I’ve been gone for, it completely slipped my mind to blog. So, a lot has happened since I’ve been gone. In the early 1920’s, many of us Germans were upset with the Treaty of Versailles and the people who signed the treaty and formed the Weimar Republic. We were suffering from hyperinflation and many people were jobless. This is when our leader Hitler, or Fuhrer, began to gain support from the people of Germany. Although Hitler was sent to prison for nine months for a failed takeover, he wrote a book that blamed Jews and communists for our problems. The Nazis gain power in Reichstag from 1929-1933. In 1932 President Von Hindenburg named Hitler chancellor, thinking he would have the ability to control him. It turns out he was wrong, because Hitler soon gained power after the Reichstag Fire. After Von Hindenburg died, there was nothing in Hitler’s way.

Hitler is controlling everyone in our country; he is censoring everything and teaching everyone to see him as a father figure. He made is so history in schools was taught to only celebrate German victories and all disasters were blamed on us Jews. The Nuremberg Laws, issued on September 15, 1935, began to exclude us Jews from public life. The Nuremberg Laws included a law that took German Jews’ citizenships and a law that made it so marriages and extramarital sex between Jews and Germans was prohibited. To be honest, I am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about Hitler. I just have a very bad feeling about this whole situation, and I feel like I should leave Germany with my family because someone is going to get hurt. I am hoping to discuss with my wife what we should do. Well, goodbye for now
    -Agmon Weil

I hope that situations in Germany get better, but from what I’ve heard, Hitler seems to be making a lot of improvements for middle-class Germans. This is the first I haven't even heard about the discrimination against Jews. Well, I hope that we have a chance to talk later, maybe we can share stories.

While you are getting improvements for your life, the Jews are being killed right on the streets and you arent even trying to stop it. We can only do so much, we dont have that many Jews in Germany to start a revolt. Help us!

He escaped to Britain before it got too bad. I feel bad for you and your family, but it can’t rain forever. Try to escape it’ll be worth it, come to the great country of Britain. We’re going through tough times, but it’s way better to be Jew in Britain than it Germany.

  8. Hello, fellow bloggers, it’s Martin Smith. It has been quite a while since I last posted on here, a lot has happened in the days that have passed since I last talked to you. Almost immediately after the war ended, America (as it should have in the beginning) started to drift into isolation. I have been hoping for some while now to have America retreat into this isolationist state. We had an amazing economic boom during the 1920s, while we were in isolation (coincidence? I think not). I started to invest money into this thing called the stock, surprisingly, since I am not one to live outside of my means. I started to feel like I could afford new things, like a shiny new car. My wife, she started wearing dresses that were above the ankle (risqué, I know). Life finally had seemed like it should be: America was keeping to themselves and were prospering while doing so. That’s when things started to go downhill. The stock market crashed and all of my family’s money was lost. We scrambled, worried that we wouldn’t be able to continue with the extravagant lifestyle. To make matters worse, the Ford factory started letting people go (unable to care for their own), and I was one of them. They sat me down and told me that it wasn’t that I wasn’t valuable, they just couldn’t afford to keep me. What was I to do? How was I supposed to support my family? My family and I picked up the few items that we hadn’t sold and traveled (like nomads) around the country trying to find work. I would stand for hours in bread lines, not even to receive a crumb. I have been devastated, but I just heard that the government is looking for able-bodied men to build something called the Hoover Dam. I guess that’s where I am heading off to, so wish me luck!

  9. Ahhh…has it really been 15 years since the end of that blasted war? Seems like forever ago…I am getting up there in the years. Europe is in a….peculiar conundrum. Everyone seems to be speculating the rise of the communist and “fascist” parties across the world. Russia has already undergone that transformation…of course that happened right in the middle of the world war. They say that they almost got a democracy down right after March 1917, but that fool Kerensky and his fellows didn’t take Russia out of their losing battle. What a fool! After that some man named Lenin took over…then Stalin came in after that, and that’s when talk of a radical new Russia began. Words like …totalitarian …propaganda ….There may be some hefty trouble in Russia, but they seem to be rising in power. Russia may now be a force to reckon with after all these years of being behind.
Italy…our next-door neighbor, the country that tried to help but failed miserably…they’re apparently changing as well. This Mussolini fellow took power and convinced everyone to a new form of government. They call it “fascism”. It sounds like a fish or someone’s face indeed, but they believe that the state is above all else, and are now units (rather than individuals) to the state’s conglomeration of loyal followers. The area of Italy has been a major site of many great and not so great civilizations that had influence on the rest of Europe...but now it seems that Italy is breaking apart from everyone. As Italy is starting to build up their army and become stronger…that’s just another threat to us.
Rumors have spread that the Germans are plotting a comeback. It’s 1933…and this guy named Hitler is rising as a great national leader. I don’t get what’s up with him, he’s just a weird looking guy with weird actions….maybe it’s because he’s short? Yeah, it has to be the height….like the great Napoleon. No matter, France has been keeping the borders as fortified as ever, so there’s no chance that Germany can invade again.
And what of France, my great and wonderful home?! It is doing wonderful in these bleak times. The Great Depression hit in 1929…but France wasn’t affected that badly. We were still collecting our compensation from Germany; Britain made the mistake of going easy on them, which led to those Brits getting hit hard with this economic decline. However, France is doing badly in the government side, there are still no great leaders like….Great Amazing Ultra Hyper Spectacular Grand Maestro Wartime General Napoleon…the lefts of the government are starting to get the majority, but I have no doubt that France will continue to do well.

Political riots and chaos there, I wish you a happier life where you're going, 'tl we meet again, au revior.

WOW! It’s great to be writing on my blog again! It’s been forever since I’ve had the chance to sit down and write my opinion on current events. However, what has currently happened in Germany is horrific. Just recently, Hitler had gained complete control over Germany after President Von Hindenburg passed away. Von Hindenburg named Hitler chancellor after he was released from jail for having a failed takeover, also known as the Beer-Hall Putsch. Hitler recently began launching his 3rd Reich, building his army up to 1.4 million soldiers. He is targeting communists, Jews, non-Aryans, Gypsies, and disordered people. This really worries me because I am, in fact, a Jewish citizen and I do not want my family being harmed at all!! Those Nazi soldiers and what they might do to us, Jews, beyond frighten me. The funny thing is when the Olympics were held here in Germany, Hitler disguised the country as peaceful and a great place to make it seem like nothing bad was going on in the area. I have a strong feeling that something is wrong and Hitler will do something unbelievably criminal, which makes me feel like I should be preparing to leave the country.

WHAT THE HECK??!?!?!?!? THE WORST HAS COME!! The event of Kristallnacht has just damaged our Jewish streets!! Nazi parties are destroying our Jewish homes and synagogues! Jewish citizens are even being killed on the spot! This is just terrible!! What in the world makes these Nazis believe that they are capable of killing us!! We are people too!! Jews are beginning to be sent into ghettos and concentration camps. However, the conditions in these ghettos are just horrible! We are literally boxed into one small area where there’s a limited amount of food and water for a large amount of people in the ghettos. Some of us have to sleep on the streets!! I wish I could just leave the country!! I’ve feared this action for a while now, but never really thought it would be true or not. Anyways, Hitler is forcing Jews that want to live, to give up 90% of their possessions. I have too much money and possessions to give up to him that easily!!! DAMN IT!! I wish I could just bribe Hitler with my money to get my family out of this misery!! Jews are being slaughtered in the streets and in concentration camps!! Hitler has so many tricks up his sleeves to “exterminate” Jews. So far, I’ve heard gas chambers, fire pits, shooting range, and the “death truck”. People are literally going insane because they fear death is in their future. All my family and I can do at this point is to stay calm and to stick together. Our love can never be separated, even with all of this madness going on in our local area.

Pretty much every minority group in your country is being targeted and many are ashamed to live in the place you call home! Hilter is bringing nothing but trouble for your country. I can promise you that if he keeps up what he is doing, your country will be in for a rude awakening. You better watch your backs because the next time a war breaks out, your country is going to have a lot of enemies my friend, including Italy. 12. Buenos dias amigos! It is I… The one and only Isak Zaslavsky. Yes, I picked up a little Spanish in the last seventeen years I was gone… but I’m back now and boy do I have a lot to tell all of you guys out there. I’m going to cut right to the chase… RUSSIA. We have successfully managed to pull ourselves together, somewhat, after that stupid czar was abdicated in March 1917. My wife was trying to tell me that the democratic government that took over after good old Nicholas was going to improve things, but I knew better. That stupid Kerensky didn’t pull us out of the war, and another revolution was simply waiting to happen. Of course, another revolution occurred, but this time in November. The Bolsheviks and Mr. Lenin took power, and someone finally did something right for once. WE WERE FINALLY PULLED OUT OF THE WAR. I briefly mentioned this to you before (17 years ago)… However after this, a deadly civil war took place between us, communists, and those nasty antirevolutionaries. Lenin managed a victory, but he had ruined many of our lives… He tried to better our situations with programs like the NEP but, he sadly died in 1924. That’s when you-know who took over…
Sta… sta…. Stalin came to power and he turned my home into a Totalitarian Communist State. He used terror, violence, purges, censorship, propaganda… and everything else that seems cruel and unfair. He gave jobs to the elite, his NKVD petrified everyone, his idea of removing religion, his effect on the education system (thank goodness my son has been out of school); I could go on and on. However, despite all this he did improve my precious little life a tiny bit. He launched his five-year plans to benefit the industry and agriculture, and the idiot also managed to wipe out all of the food in Russia... However, getting back to the bright side… he did increase the industrial output which is commendable. I guess I’m not too pleased with the state my wonderful country is in, but I assume it will have to do for now… Well at least until the next “Great War”.
I guess a lot has been going on in other countries as well, as I’ve heard. In Germany, there is Hitler rising to power. That blasted Germany; they always end up finding solutions to their problems. How am I supposed to sleep at night knowing that Germany has a strong leader that will HELP THEM? What is this? Rumor has it that he is building a massive army, which also doesn’t sound too good to me… Anyway I heard that they are becoming a totalitarian dictatorship just like us… (Join the club). Oh yes, I almost forgot. There’s some guy in Italy called Mussolini or something and he is also working toward the great totalitarian state. He is trying to create this fascist type of state and at the same time he is also building up his military. This leaves the western democracies of America, Britain, and France. I know they aren’t becoming totalitarian states, but they sure were hit hard by that Great Depression in 1929. Hopefully they have the strength and time to build up their economy, and not their army. Atleast, I know France won’t build up their army; they’ve spent a lot of money on some huge wall to protect themselves from Germany… Alas, Times are getting rough; I pray that we will somehow better our situation and hopefully we are not on the brink of another war. Or else…

  13. Konrad Lutz is back on the blog after a long time and I have some news about Germans. We the German were upset with the Treaty of Versailles and the creation of the Weimer Republic. Many people were jobless and Germany had a stage of hyperinflation. Everywhere I went I saw people putting their over amounts of money on the street and in their fireplaces. I have been burning my extra, worthless cash too, i dont have to get wood for awhile now. This new ruler, Hitler, began to gain support from the citizens of Germany. However, when Hitler tried to take over the government and failed he was sent to prison and was there for nine months. While he was in the prison he wrote a book about how the Jews of Germany were too blame for its failures. Hitler was named chancellor In 1932 by President Von Hindenburg because he thought he could control him. It turns out he was wrong, because Hitler soon gained power after the after Von Hindenburg died and from there, Hitler continued his pursuit to end the Jewish race.

Hitler is controlling the young in the old in Germany. He has established Youth Groups and brainwashed the young of Germany. The history topics in the schools are about German victories and math problems include the killing of Jews. We Jews started to be excluded and disrespected when the The Nuremberg Laws were issued. Jewish citizenship was stripped from us, our rights were taken away, and Hitler is starting to kill us. I thought having Hitler as a ruler would be a good idea, but now I see the real Hitler and it isnt looking good. German SS officers entered my children's school to find undesirable Jews, my daughter hid somewhere and escaped the SS. Should I move or stay? I need some helpful information to keep my family safe any ideas? Let me know, goodbye from Konrad.

  15. I’m getting to old for this … what was I talking about now. That’s right, I remember now, this world that I fought to help is in a whole new level of Hades. After the war I got a good job at a marina doing every imaginable job there was. I still had time to go jogging in my American flag jumpsuit which is sad to talk about because know one guy is talking to his lord for trying to mug me recently. He tried to take the money I had on me. My training kicked in after he stabbed my leg, I just ripped t out and stabbed him in the neck. That guy just wanted money but instead he desecrated the American flag and got accidently killed doing it. Back to the marina, I got paid a good amount for it too. Good thing I love America and hate banks. I had a lot of money in my house somewhere safe so I didn’t get the worst of it. And with all of those ladies showing their legs walking down the street distracting me I don’t know what’s going on. First my cannoli guy died now this.
America the beautiful, land of the free and men running the government who don’t want to fight. If I’m still willing to do my part then the president’s name should be Norman “All American” Washington. (This means me if you forget my name). America was made from war and it’s this countries right to go to war. I admit I voted for FDR but I didn’t expect this. Now that the country is poor and I catch most of my food I wish that the one person who started this whole heap of trouble died. I sent that one poor guy to his end, I think about that every time I jog. But know I can see clearly now and that fog off the harbor is gone I know see that I sent him somewhere better than a wimpy America and his probable starvation. Now that I hear about all this crap in Russia, Germany, France, Britain, and Japan I don’t know what to think about this world anymore. My wife and kids that I love also know this. I want them to be safe with guys with Stalin or that toe jam guy or whatever his name was from Japan running about. Know welcome to my nightmare that I’ve been happening about another great war. Looks like it’s no more mr.niceguy for me.

Well, Mr. Norman “All American” Washington, war is not good for America now and you should agree. Sending starving Americans without jobs into war isn’t the greatest idea. America would rather become isolated than join the war. You sent the guy who stabbed you into a better place unless he was an immigrant of course. Don’t think of the World as a whole think of America as an isolated country who will do better on it’s own.

  16. Karlhienz Kruger here. Hard enough to get back on the old computer because of all these damn taxes. Paying these war reparations is really tough on us because we just had to take all the blame. Life here is getting pretty rough, trying to get food is probably the toughest things because of this hyperinflation. All around the street you would see money just blowing around because its literally worth nothing. The only way to heat my house now is by burning it so that we dont have to pay for coal. Luckily though the nazi party is starting to gain control in the Weimar Republic. Im willing to support them all the way because of their revolutionary ideas in our country. Hopefully though they do end up being in power because their leader, Hitler, by far has written the most beautifully reasonable book of all our problems, IT WAS ALL THE JEWS. Its so clear to me now why havent i thought of this? Theyre always in the way of all of our jobs mainly and its is really annoying.

    (many months later)

HEIL! Hitler has taken over all of Germany and is doing very nicely. Im always enjoying myself on these nice cruises, with all the sunshine and the working out and the food and the working out and the breeze and the working out, ESPECIALLY the working out. Gotta get buff for the babes..... (gets slapped by wife).... She really dosent matter now for all that matters right now is if she is having babies and she is already on her way with the fourth now we have Dragobert....uhhhh and the other two that i seem to have lost track of, all i know is that I love my Dragobert. He too also enjoys getting the regular workout with me. Honestly though i think that Hitler is doing an amazing job right now because we all have jobs, we all have food, we all have kids, and we have have huge muscles. Who wouldnt want to be like us? With all of this i think that we will become a huge overpowered country with all the muscles. Signing off (with huge muscles) Karlheinz Kruger.

    2. Honestly, Karlhienz clearly something is wrong in the water over there. You are so far behind in the grand scheme of things. America is clearly the most Athletic country in the world. "A huge overpowered country" you make me laugh, once we get all of these mongrels out of America we will flourish far beyond what Germany could even hope to accomplish. Please, just keep your muscles to yourself.

  17. Since my last post, I have traveled to Germany with my uncle to vacate. While we were there Hitler made an appearance. (That man is very funny looking) Anyways, there were people that were so happy. (I'm guessing those are the Aryan people). Then we wandered off and found a concentration camp. Those people looked so sad and unhappy. If Germans are proud of the horrible treatment of those people, they must be incredibly selfish.
That's the good thing about Italy. No camps full of people who are different. We don't worship and treat the enemy like a leader. Hitler is destroying Germany, and that's just one country. Take a look at Russia. Stalin is making Russian people learn about censored subjects and they have to believe in Stalin as if the man is Jesus.

Italy is doing alright in comparison to those two countries and America and Britain. America has the Great Depression that spread to Britain. Many are jobless and poor. Here, we have a great leader that Marched On Rome for power and our men followed him. He has let us keep our beliefs. What a wonderful man he is!

Many moons ago, the war ended. Following the war, I embarked on a spiritual quest to learn the inner mysteries of the human mind. I have now realized, we are all equal. At least, that's
what I would say if I believed it. Europe is, to quote Denzel Wilkins, a pot of fish soup made with only the heads. After a while we decided to ease up on Germany. Why, I have no idea. Italy,
France, even Germany is all in turmoil, especially with America in this Great Depression. I knew Hoover was going to suck. His name sounds too weird. Hoover. Really. Who would want a president
named Hoover? Not me. At least Italy is starting to stabilize, thanks to Benito Mussolini. What a man. Working among the commoners shirtless. Mad awkward, but what a tank. Ripping off
the shirt and just going to town harvesting wheat. Hot, with a capital H.

Germany, despite us easing up on it, was still in turmoil and hyperinflation. Communists and Fascists brawled in the streets. Very scawwy, the Communists are. Here in Britain, we are fearing
a takeover by either. So we decided to form a coalition, dividing up power among the three major parties. Now that Germany is stable, it seems perfect. I don't think so. Hitler has a shifty look
to him. The mustache. You can tell by the mustache. It throws you off. Anywho, I'm off to buy several new bowls. I need more big bowls. Alrighty, bye-bye.

  19. Long time since I’ve been on this thing. Back after the Treaty of Versailles was my last post. But yes, signing back on, is I, Napoleon the 163rd. Since WWI, France has fallen of the radar a bit, but that doesn’t mean we’re gone. Our government is not doing so well, and no strong leaders have stepped up. I heard rumors of one Benito Mussolini in Italy preaching Fascism or something. I know our government is in the toilet, but at least our sophisticated country is hanging on to democracy. I just love my country, the freedom, the lifestyle, but I’m kind of scared of the countries around us. Hitler and Germany are building up their army and no one is doing anything about it. I’m scared about that. Even the powerful France isn’t ready for another war. Where is the League of Nations??? Do something about this!!!
Our chances with a newly strong Germany are slim right now, so we should call on our allies for help!--What???? That can’t be!—My wife just informed me that our great allies are in the midst of a depression. Actually, I did hear of this, the newspaper had this in it. It said America was having problems with inflation and buying on margin. It then said- Wait I forget, let me go get it- It says here,” America: Stock Market Crash- After a terrible crash in the stock market, Americans are being left with almost nothing. Citizens are “running on banks” and withdrawing whole accounts. Banks are closing and people are losing their total life savings. Also, the Dustbowl in the Midwest led to crops dying and emigration. America has plunged into depression.” Man, I feel bad for my friends across the Atlantic. Wait, this must be the reason why Britain is in a depression. There is so much international trade these days, that if 1 country fails, they all do. See, but this is why I love France. We have eluded this depression because we have that old school agricultural base. And thanks to all that money from Germany, we’re too rich to be in a depression. My life in France is just totally perfect right now. I’ll see you soon, or later, I don’t know.

  20. Bonjour! It is Charlotte Baste (Allie Collins), here once again from the great country of France. We are doing okay after The War to End All Wars. We have no strong leaders and are afraid of either being full out communist or full out fascist. I feel the League of Nations should be doing something about the rising power of Germany and Italy, as well as Japan breaking the Treaty of Versailles! I think Japan might be planning something because why would the build up their army SO much more in such a short time if they weren't??

On another note, America was doing very well for the years right after the war. They were loaning money to Germany, to help them pay off their debts, and Germany was, in turn, paying us, aka France, and Germany, while we were trading with America. America, I heard, was doing VERY risque things and I, for one, do not approve! I mean, how would I feel if my sons ever came home with a girl whose dress came over the ankle! That is, if they ever come back, which they won't. Then, a depression hit America, with affected almost all of the Western European Empires, except us. We in France are doing very well in our very own agricultural state. I am quite happy to be part of the world's best nation, France.

  21. Hello! Wilfred Jackson here! Last time we talked we were about to go to war or already in war I honestly don't remember haha. The war wasn't so bad after all. Life was pretty good after it was done. The economy boomed which made me & others quite happy. It somewhat made up for going to war when we shouldn't have. I was able to buy a new car about 2 years after the war!
But, what goes up, must come down. A few years ago the stock market crashed. As soon as i found out my money was at risk I dashed to the bank to try to withdraw all my money. But it was too late. The line was hundreds of people deep and by the time I made it. They told me they had no money. I was devasted, my life savings. GONE. My president? He sure as hell didnt care. Good thing he's gone now and we have FDR. Things are slowly starting to get better. I can now actually have 3 decent meals everyday. I should've known it was bound to happen, but life was good. Hopefully President Roosevelt keeps it up and life will be just as good as before! Who knows, just have to wait and see.

  22. Long time no see my dear friends. Adler Barth (Brianna Leung) signing in. Many things have happened since I last posted. Many Germans are upset with the Treaty of Versailles. The November Criminals were looked down upon since they signed the treaty and formed the Weimar Republic. Germany was in big trouble around the 1920’s. Rapid inflation and a weak economy had struck us. We were left leaderless. My family and I had trouble with finding food since none of us had jobs. We wanted a leader that was able to help the people in Germany. Another problem in Germany had been the conflict between the communist and fascists. These two parties were fighting to take power of the Reichstag.
At that time Adolph Hitler began to gain support in Germany. He had hated the Jews and was an extreme nationalist. Hitler’s first attempt to takeover put him in jail for nine months. In jail he writes a book, which gains him many supporters. I myself had supported Hitler. The book stated that the Jews and Communists were the ones to blame. I felt that Hitler would help get more jobs and more food for Germany. Finally, the Nazi Party gains power during the Reichstag fire. Von Hindenburg names Hitler chancellor. The Reichstag Fire is blamed on the Communists which makes Hitler gain more power. By the time Von Hindenburg dies, Hitler has total control.
Hitler has total control of Germany. Under his rule, everything was censored. People were taught that Hitler was the most important. Propaganda was shown throughout Germany to persuade women on having more children, and the men of Germany joining the military. I don’t feel it is right to have women produce more children just because Hitler says so. Another thing I don’t agree on is the Nuremburg Law Hitler issued. It had stripped Jews of any power they had. Even though life for my family and I had been successful, because we had jobs and was able to go on vacations. The life for middle-class Jews wasn’t right at all. I believe they shouldn’t be attacked just because of their religion.

    1. Hitler had no right to take away the Jewish people’s citizenship. He is completely insane and he will be stopped. Once other countries start to pay attention and see what is going on, Hitler will be defeated. I have hope that someone will come save us. If not for that little bit of hope, life would be unbearable. We are completely powerless. Hitler will only bring more death and destruction if he is not stopped.

  24. 5. It has been a long time since I have last written to you comrades. The year is 1930, about 10 years since the Great Depression hit the United Kingdom. As for me and Annabel, my wife, we have managed to keep out of the influence of the Great Depression. It has been quite a struggle in fact. At first we didn’t quite know what was going on. We started a business at first, a little coffee shop. It wasn’t doing so well in the beginning, but then something changed. These two men came in dressed in large over coats and pulled out a breifcase. They said that they were Political refugees from Germany. They told me that they are Jewish.

They told me that Hitler had been prosecuting the communists in Germany. Sending them to camps where they would either work them to death. Or send them straight to places where they essentially would be cremated alive. They had both been doctors and had gotten their license to practice revoked. They had to give up all that they had to give up everything to be able to leave Germany. They had to pay taxes for 2 years in advance. They barely got out alive. Apparently things like this are just being brushed to the side by the citizens.

  25. My country, Germany, is doing great. Our new leader, Adolf Hitler, has restored Germany. We have nearly recovered from World War 2. Unemployment is very low and Hitler has inspired a level of nationalism that Germany has never possessed before. He has made people proud to be German citizens again. One thing I'm a little concerned about is the Jewish people. Hitler has recently passed the Nuremberg Laws, but I am not that concerned because I'm not Jewish and I don't suspect the antisemitism will go much further than it has already. I'll be sure to keep an eye out on the Jews, but for now I'm not too suspicious of their mistreatment.
Hitler has also set up youth groups which my children are participating in. I think it's good that my children learn to be the best German citizens they can be. After all, Germany is one of the best if not the best country in the world. Other countries are a little suspicious of a war on the horizon, and if there is going to be one I can guarantee we'll win it. We were absurdly punished after World War 1, but that was their mistake because now we're stronger than ever. We have a new, powerful leader and we are ready to face anything that comes our way.

    1. Maybe you Germans were punished a little bit to harshly but you guys did cause a lot of destruction in France. But anyways that's great that your unemployment is low but that's not because of people working in factories, its because people have government jobs. Sooner or later the government isn't going to be able to support it anymore and then nobody in Germany will have jobs.

  26. I am back! WWI is over and France is in the process of recovering. Vive France! We are not suffering too badly but like the rest of the world we don’t have enough as we would like. The main goal of our government is to build up a high defense at the border of our country. I am on the project like many other young men that have nothing to do with their life. Before anyone knows it will be finished.
The only thing I question is why we are not building up the fortifications next to Belgium. The way the Germans got into France in WWI was that they went through Belgium, destroying most of the country and there for entering France. No one wants this to happen again so we need to build it up or fall like last time.
German armies are being built as I write this I must go and help my people finish the fortifications. And hopefully the great Lord Napoleon will bring sense to the government so that they tell us to build up the Belgium border.

  27. Giovanni Monacelli (Alec S.)
I mean, I don’t mind this guy Mussolini in power, but let’s face it we all know a nationalist like myself could inspire more change in Italy than Mussolini with my eyes closed! I’m not saying he’s doing a bad job, but I would be far superior than Benito. Benito sounds like the name of a sissy and is that who you want running your country? That’s not the name I want people to think of when they think of Italy. They should think about people who would die for the love of Italy like myself. Plus my name, Giovanni Monacelli is far manlier than Benito Mussolini. Though I am not the biggest fan of Mussolini, he has done an okay job as leader. After the war, us Italians were expected to be powerful, to prosper, and to scare the other countries into giving us land. We were supposed to be feared! I’m not afraid of any country that wants to fight us over taking their land because we will beat them into the dirt! I’m not afraid of anything, except snakes, women, and the police! Anyway, it wasn’t fair how we had jobless veterans in our country! My older brother is a jobless vet and he is kind of a lunatic now that he’s back from war. OMG he just jumped out the window I’ll be right back!..........It’s ok he landed in the dumpster four stories below. He thought someone threw a grenade in his room! War changes people I tell you.

Along with my crazy brother and other veterans not having jobs, the government was in complete and total chaos. We had 5 different governments from 1919-1922! All those governments were filled with a bunch of pansies, that’s why. My 12 year old vegetarian sister could have ripped them all a new one! I have to say that it was a smart move to use all this turmoil to gain support for the fascist party. His great public speaking helped him tremendously to gain support as well. The only problem I have with this is that he is always half naked out in public! I mean c’mon man! Nobody wants to see that old wrinkly body of yours! Just thinking about gives me nightmares. Benito used violence through his private army (the black shirts) to tear down the other parties. I really don’t think he had to go to this extent to gain power because he had so much support already, including mine, and using an army to do his dirty work was not necessary because he would have gained power anyway in my opinion. But we are a fascist state and terror is used quite often to gain and keep power which I don’t mind, but there is a line between over doing it and just the right amount. However, I still think he should change that girly name of his. When Benito led the March on Rome in October, it was a crazy event and I thought it was very disrespectful how he went after the King at a time when he was vulnerable (in fear of a communist takeover). But then again, I’m happy that he gained power because I would HATE living in a communist society. Like, me and some hobo eating crap off the sidewalk do not belong in the same class of people! Now Mussolini has complete control of Italy and named himself Il Duce. Much more intimidating Benito! He inspired men to fight and women to be good mothers which is a positive, but he tried to steer our attention away from economic problems by expanding. I see what you did there. Il Duce did expand into Albania, Ethiopia, and other parts of Africa which is great for Italy! He has established us as a feared country because not even the League of Nations will mess with us! Where is Germany now? Oh yeah, they are fighting amongst themselves for power. What is his name, Adolf Hitler? What a scrub, with his in power you will be going nowhere Germany. Over in America I do feel sympathy towards them considering they have gone through the Great Depression. If I was leader I would help them out just as they help us in the war. Open your eyes Mussolini! Help the Americans!

  28. My family is evil. My eldest son, Hans, recently got married to a girl named Drizella Tremaine and had a little boy named Jack. He just got out of prison trying to take over the government during the Beer Hall Push. Hans is now one of the leading Nazi officials in Germany, and works with with Joseph Goebbels to make propaganda. Hans also turned in Frederick for being “undesirable” and shell shocked. Frederick was sterilized. Now he hangs out at the Cabaret all day. Meanwhile, Brigitta, who just turned 14, joined the Hitler Youth. She recently wrote back saying she had an affair with a boy named Johan Frei, just gave birth to a baby girl named Abagail “Abba” Frei.
Maria and I recently went on a cruise to the Canary Islands, thanks to the job I got now that Hitler set up jobs. My uncle, Richard Wagner, conducts the KDF orchestra. He recently played in Dresden, and played a new piece of his: Die Meistersinger von Nürnburg. Meanwhile, I’m waiting for my Volkswagon to come in. I already have my order number. I’m beginning to wonder if it will come in at all. At least it’s better than it was before. The weak economy made it hard to live. Liesel, who was sick at the time, died last winter. It was too bad. Now things are going so well in Germany. My wife is going to have another child soon. At least it’s not like Russia. We would all have been dead by now with those awful purges.

  29. Long time no see fellow bloggers! It is I, James Collins, here to tell you about what has being going on in my life in America these past years. After the war finally ended, many Americans began sharing my opinions of an isolated America. We drifted into isolation like we should have all along. The economy boomed in the 1920’s and life in Michigan was going very well for my family and I. My wife came home one day in a new dress that was above her ankles and my 15 year old followed behind her in an even shorter dress! How risqué!
Good thing came to an end in 1929. The stock market crashed and people were rushing to the banks. I was among those people but couldn’t get within ten feet of the bank. A crowd blocked to entrance, screaming “I want my money!” but there was nothing that could be done. I lost my job at the Ford Factory along with many of my co-workers. How was I supposed to provide for my family now? Rumors have been going on about a need to able-bodied men to build some dam. I’ll have to look into that soon.

  30. I haven’t written anything on this blog in a great while. Everything was changing in our Italy, and I simply forgot to update you. So let me fill you in. We have a new leader now named Mussolini. He took over and made us what is called a Fascist state? I don’t really know what that means, but my husband says it’s nothing major. Of course he wouldn’t tell me anything about it. The men never tell us, women, what anything means. Do they think they are protecting us from evil? Do they remember that it was in fact their mother; a women, who raised them? I guess not.
When our new leader came to power, I did notice my husband getting a little more grabbie than usual. He has barely notice me since the last of our three kids was born. The other night, he actually mentioned that we should have another baby. I thought three kids were enough! When I brought this point up, he just replied, “Do it for the state”. What does that even mean?! Another peculiar thing happening in our great land is that men seem to be walking around shirtless all of the time. I’m not complaining, but it does seem a little weird. Maybe this new leader guy has given them some self-confidence or something. Even with all of our new changes, Italy is still superior to everybody else. We may have loads of kids running around and half-naked men in the street, but you can’t deny that our meatballs are the tastiest.

  31. Hello world, this is Peter Smith (Victoria Beyer). So much has changed since I last wrote! I’ve just been exhausted lately. For a while there, life was great, and then it all went downhill. I lost my job at the factory because of the horrible bank crash. That was an Italian conspiracy if I’ve ever seen one. Hoover was a good president, and he certainly had the right idea with keeping all of these dang foreigners out of our hair. They do more harm than good, I swear. Of course, FDR is an okay guy; he’s trying pretty dang hard to get us out of this mess. Honestly though, life would be so much better if we just got rid of all these Slavs and Asians and Africans and… well pretty much everybody but the real Americas. That would be a great way to open up some new jobs and keep them from spreading like lice.
Luckily, all of the chaos over in Europe has taught us one thing. We do not need to get involved in Europe. It is neither our business nor our problem. I don’t keep track of what’s going on in Europe, and frankly I don’t really care because guess what? We have the whole Atlantic between us and them. Some weirdo in the bread lines yesterday was ranting about some foolishness in Japan. Where exactly is Japan? Oh right it’s on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, the biggest ocean in the world. I have enough trouble feeding my sons; I don’t have time to worry about Manchuria of all places. Henry, the eldest brought home a girl last week, you should have seen how much leg she was showing. She must have been a Slav, I swear. Unfortunately, the Slavs aren’t the only ones plotting against us hardworking Americans anymore. Now we have to worry about those Russian Communists. Oh, no, no, no, I will have nothing to do with all of that nonsense.

  32. Oh boy I feel like I haven’t written in so long! So much has happened in my communist country just in the past few years. Heck! We even had two revolutions in less than a year! That was during my teen years and I swear everyone has been running around with their heads cut off. Everyone needs to take a nap and think things over. Sadly Lenin is taking a longer nap than any of us [HE DIED]. No one could run this country like him [BUT HE DIED]. Lenin wanted Trotsky to take over like a woman wants chocolate. But sadly no one wants things to go write so Stalin took over. Or as I call him, Stalky Stalin. He uses the scary NKVD to put terror in all our lives. People seems to classify my great state as a “Totalitarian state.” That seems to be a new age terms the young people are using these days. All I know is that I sure don’t like what we have become. No religion leaves people wondering what’s next, people are told to worship government leaders and worst of all there is fake magazines and posters all over the cities. My daughter even told me that teachers in school were telling them to rip out pages of their books.
What is the worst is what is happening in my own town right now. An important part of communism is no private ownership of land. So that means the entire five farms I owned through my rich old husband are now shared by peasants. I once was a peasant and had to work my way up the ladder to a rich marriage. They have no right to take our land by no means! Apparently these five year plans were put in place to make Russia modern. We were good and jolly just the way we were. But nope not for us, the industrial end is being great and successful. Now for our end there is no steps forward. We only get more and more hungry by the day. Who knew being rich would still leave me wondering where my next meal was coming from? Maybe our new “better” farming techniques will become successful. Now my friend Isak Zaslavsky is at the door, we are going to the library to study Spanish. I will write soon.

  34. It’s been a month since I’ve heard from my mother in the Ukraine. My family usually communicates well before then. I’m starting to worry. My son and I are trying to find more food. We’ve become really good at scavenging. I’ve seen people starve on the streets day in and day out. Betty hasn’t given up hope like the rest of us. She still thinks it could be worse. I saw my brother get dragged off the streets by the secret police for just saying he wondered what would be different if Trotsky was in charge of Russia. We didn’t see him for at least a week. He came back with three teeth missing and a broken arm. Things are getting worse and worse. We’ve been eating more and more disgusting things just to survive. We ate a squirrel the other night.
Stalin and his unnecessary purges. I was almost taken from my family but it turns out my name was crossed off the list. My family farm was destroyed by the secret police for “suspicion” of treason. They took all the crops and even raided my cousin’s house for valuables saying it was contraband. My cousin was later taken away for a purge. I want to believe Urser is still alive but I don’t know anymore. My son said someone from his class was out for a week. I went to go see if his family was okay but I was stopped by a neighbor. She said that the boy was eaten by his own parents. I looked into the house and I ran for my life. I will never be able to get the image out of my head. I will be haunted for the rest of my life.

  36. Hello friends! Haagen-Dazs Heineken here, and a lot has changed in Germany since I last posted! There is a new man in power, Adolf Hitler, and I’m not sure how I feel towards him. As a middle class German citizen, I really have no complaints, the wife and kids are safe at home and that’s the most important thing to me right now. I have heard complaints about him that make me worry for the well-being of others though…and I have seen Jews being discriminated against and I’m not sure why. Hitler is promoting these anti-sematic movements, and my neighbor said that he is sending Jews to work camps? I don’t understand why he doesn’t like Jewish people, if anything he should discriminate against lactose-intolerant people. They can’t eat ice-cream so they’re most likely unhappy anyway.
One more thing about Hitler, he is teaching my kids to think of him as a father figure. That crosses the line. If he is their father, then what does that make me?! My boys are starting to think of Hitler as their father and me practically as their goofy uncle with an affinity for ice cream instead of a role model. I have made up my mind, I am against Hitler and do not support him. (I probably should not say this on the internet because if he really is this mean to Jews then he will most likely not respond kindly to this if he sees it…) Anyways, my heart goes out to all the Jewish Germans and lactose intolerant people out there, stay safe!

  37. WOW!! What a life it has been since I’ve last posted. It is a very active world we live in now days. First, this depression we are in is dreadful! We don’t have any jobs, any food, and any living conditions. We live in a dreadful hut, and none of my family members have jobs. I have been looking for the longest time for a job but just can’t seem to find anything. I’ve even gone on one of the train cars in search for another town with jobs but still nothing! It seems that all of Britian has this problem and from what I have heard America is just as bad. I’ve heard that what started this was that huge strike earlier. Thousands of people went on a large strike and changed Britian massively. As we speak I am losing hope in this world and don’t know what to do with myself.
All around Europe there is something else going on that is quite interesting. In Russia, this man named Stalin, has taken over the communist government. I have heard mixed things about this man but overall I have heard he is extremely harsh. He has set up work camps for others and seems to be treating people horribly. But, he is still in power so he must be doing something right. Right? In Italy this man named Mussolini has taken power and seems to rule his government much like Russia’s. He has seemed to improve the life of his people, but what do I know he could be killing people for no reason. Germany, Germany seems to intrigue me the most. This man named Adolf Hitler has taken power. He has done amazing things for the German people, but something doesn’t seem right about him. He has this eerie feeling to him that doesn’t seem right. Well, I must go so tootaloo to you all!

Sorry for not writing in a while. I got caught up in life and now my kids are all grown up. My son, Finn, is now married and he has a daughter who’s two and a son who’s five. At the moment, my whole family is struggling from the Great Depression. Another war is on the verge of breaking out in Europe and luckily America wants nothing to do with it. The Ford Factory is firing people daily and we don’t have the equipment to make cars anymore. I will probably be laid off in the next few days. Finn and my daughter went off to look for other jobs in Detroit, but came back within a week. Detroit was a mess and even worse than Flint.
If America hadn’t loaned the other countries money and helped Germany pay their debt America wouldn’t be struggling right now. My family wouldn’t be struggling through this either and they shouldn’t have to struggle through this, they’re so young, they should be living life to the fullest. If only America were to become an isolated country this would all go away.

That must be a truly devastating thing to happen to you and I hope that your family can pull through. I feel bad that it is a result of helping Germany out with our debt, but things in Germany aren't looking too good right now and we might need your country's help sooner or later so please consider that when your country is deciding to become isolated.

  39. These are tough times I tell you. Tough times indeed. I am writing this on the paper bag I found floating around the other day, because I certainly cannot afford paper. It’s been quite a while since I’ve written, but heck that was because I was havin the time of my life! It was the roarin 20s- the best decade you’ll ever hear of. I left my family and job, moved to New York City, and became a flapper! That was the best decision in my life, I didn’t like my kids and my husband was a slob anyway. I wonder how they’re doing in these times… oh well; I gotta fend for myself, don’t I? As I was saying, the twenties were great- nice cars, fashionable clothes, a never ending supply of money. All that changed in ’29. One minute I was livin it up at the bar, the next I was on the streets beggin for money. Apparently it was because of inflation; too many people were spending too much money. I blame Hoover! He didn’t do anything to help us because of his “laissez-faire” beliefs. That coward. He just didn’t want to face the facts that he was the only one who could save America from what it is now. Also, someone should have told me that you had to pay all the money you borrowed back to the banks. Its uneducated citizens in finance like me that are the cause of this here “great depression”.
The other terrible thing going on in the USA is the dustbowls. You would never imagine how much crap can gather up in the air at such massive sizes. I live in Oklahoma (I moved here to get away from the big apple- my flapper days are no longer) and there are dust storms almost every week nowadays! It’s really an awful thing to experience. Sometimes they last for days on end, with swirling silt sitting in the air, strangling your lungs and blinding your eyes. It’s especially bad for me because I don’t have a real home, just a dumb old cardboard box in a rundown Hooverville. Ugh, I can’t even stand to say his name. That darn president didn’t help us at all! Even the stupid “hoover dam” didn’t save us. He thought that would rid America from our unemployment crisis but boy was he wrong. All it did was give people from Nevada jobs, and then the rest of America was still screwed. To put the cherry on the mound of crap were all in, there is a war going again in Europe, and I’m afraid were gonna hafta send our troops in pretty soon. Germany seems great from what I saw on the Olympics and Italy as weal. It’s just Russia that I’m afraid of. Well, that’s all for now. I gotta go hop a train- ya that’s right, I’m a hobo! Thanks, Hoover.

  40. It has been very long since I could find a working computer and have the time to sit down and blog a bit. So much has happened in a decade or so, and our beloved country, America, has fallen in a Great Depression! Before this, Americans fell in love with a new dance called jazz! Oh my wife and I would dance all night at the Snazzy Jazzy Club down on Main Street! We were also making great strides in our economy until our stock market crashed. People stormed into banks demanding for money but there was none to give to them. Many people tried pushing and shoving their way into getting money but nothing helped. They got crazy and attacked the police but even that didn't solve their problems. They began to wander around the streets because they had lost their jobs as well as their homes. Is this what has America come to nowadays?

The true-blooded Americans, like me, were allowed to stay in the country at this time of crisis, but others were directed back to where they had migrated from. The government thought that with them gone, there could be more jobs... Well newsflash- there wasn't! I mean I understand there is a lot going on in Europe, but we should at least get some help here. We practically helped out most of these countries already and the least they could do is offer us some support! Most Americans can barely bring home a loaf of bread to feed their families! Well I guess that’s all I have to rant about today, but I’ll be back again with good news soon! (<<<Whenever that will be)

  41. Hello there fellow bloggers! Priscilla Moore here! Many things have happen since the end of World War 1! We Americans have been effected in a good way. First, our economy experienced a “boom” in the early 1920’s! This was great for America. Some Americans were happy that the war was over, but I think there’s nothing better than rooting for your team in a World War! Later, The First Red Scare was caused by communist revolutions in Russia and bomb explosions in many cities of America. In 1924 America passed a law called the “National Origins Act”. This meant that foreigners from other countries were forbidden to entering America. At the time I didn’t mind this act, because I think everyone in America should be a proud American and not just come here to get safety or whatever they want. The down side to this was we couldn’t trade with any other countries that much because, they’re foreigners and not allowed here.
After all this, a time period some people called ‘the roaring twenties” came up in America. This consisted of many people wearing different styles of clothing, that some of the older folks didn’t really think was appropriate. There were these dancers called “flappers” who were the new hit of the twenties. The flappers were known to wear “skimpier” clothes and dance to jazz music. A lot of the older people were probably asking themselves, what America has come to!?
Between 1925-1929, Inflation, suffering farmers, and buying on margin showed that many Americans were in trouble. In October 1929, the American stock market went down hill. This was not a good thing. This caused the stocks to be worth nothing. As a result, almost all Americans that had money in the bank, immediately tried to take it all out. Most banks were not able to give everyone all their money because they didn’t have enough cash. This event was known as “the run on banks”. Later in the Midwest there was a storm called “the Dustbowl” This big storm caused trouble with growing crops and many Americans to immigrate to California. This tragic event was caused by over farming and big dust clouds and winds buried houses and cars in dirt and dust. That storm was a pretty tough one for all the southern people. I’m glad I don’t live over there! Well that’s all for today’s blog! Talk to you later!

  42. Hello, bloggers I’m glad to see yall back and posting since the war. Well us Americans we were doing well immediately after the war. Our economy was booming and were going back to our old ways of being isolationist. We had our first red scare, and as usual we blamed the communist. I feel we should just give up on this whole liberal democracy idea, just because it worked before doesn’t mean it will work now. Maybe since we don’t like the communist we should become fascist like Germany and Italy. Ya know now we have an inflation and were in the middle of the great depression and all this suffering. Like today on my run I had to make a pit stop at the bank and withdraw my 10,000 dollars, and you wouldn’t even believe it the bank had none of my money. So how am I gonna pay for my new car now, I guess I’ll have to return it, if that’s even possible. Now that I’ve just finished retyping this, you wouldn’t understand what just happened to me a few days ago. This huge cloud of dust just came rolling over my town, and destroyed all of our crops, I was almost killed. But on a positive note we’ve come up with some new fashions and dances.
Over on the other side of the world the great depression had hit just because of us Americans, but all of you Europeans dint come blaming America because it’s not our fault. Maybe you cause should be more independent and more self-sufficient. Brittan and France are having some difficulty holding onto their democracy, I’m telling you we should all just become fascist.

  43. Long time no see, my fellow bloggers! First of all I must say that I am thankful beyond belief that my boys are home and we have spent a lot of time together these past eighteen years. In fact my eldest son, Stefan, is now married to a lovely young woman by the name of Danita and they have a beautiful six year old girl and four year old boy. Elsewhere, it would have been great to win the war, but I am glad it’s over with and I hope that this peace will last. Our new leader, this guy named Hitler, seems to be an alright guy. He gives great speeches and unemployment has been decreasing since he has taken over. Yet, something is off about him, I’m not quite sure what it is but there is something wrong. I suppose that as long as I don’t stick my nose where it doesn’t belong, my family and I can continue living a normal, safe life. What is so suspicious though, is that I have seen some of the Jewish folk’s houses in town get raided and some of the people have vanished. I worry for Stefan’s wife, Danita, because she is also Jewish, maybe there is no connection between the disappearances and religion but the patterns are rather strange.
Elsewhere, America has passed laws restricting immigration numbers which worries me because if things continue to escalate here I feel that people will be trying to get out. The USSR has become a Totalitarian state under Stalin and he had these five year plans for agriculture (pretty big fail) and industry. These plans led to famine and attacks on the Kulaks, and lately there have been many deaths and people being sent to labor camps in Siberia. Also there are Communist movements going around the whole world, I wonder if Hitler feels threatened by them. It feels like things are going downhill again, another war could be on the way. There seems to be a lot of people that want complete control and are obsessed with spreading their ideas, I don’t think they are all willing to share or compromise.

  44. Hello all it is Andreas Smith here again. It has been such a long time since I posted and a lot has happened in my country and all over the world. I believe I last talked to you guys just after the end of the Great War. Now thanks to Hitler’s Strength through joy program I have time to sit down and type a entry. Life in Germany has been vastly improved
and we are being returned to a world power.

Although Hitler is a really creepy looking man he does know how fix a countries problems. We are preparing for war it seems and I’m not proud of it but I think it will be best for this country in the long run. Not that I enjoy being smothered in propaganda but Hitler is turning this country around for the better. We have jobs, a car, and we get a lot of free time to do what we please. I really hope that our country doesn’t take a turn for the worse because it seems like it could go either way at this point. Anyways it was fun to post again I have to go dig a hole you know Strength through Joy.

  45. War, I hardly remember what that word stands for; but I do remember that we, France, came out victorious. Ahhhhhh qui qui, I remember that those pompous Germans lost and we got our sweet, sweet revenge. They gave us the land and they paid and as for Wilson, well it was quite tragic. His fourteen year plan became a zero year plan, MDR. Did he really think we would just call it even? Mon Dieu, Il est tres fou! But, it is not good to speak ill of the dead. John wrote to me that he died heartbroken. His country did not back him up with the league of nations. C’est triste. You would think it couldn't get any worse but Germany became the definition of sadness and disaster! Their economy was crumbling. Their unemployment rate skyrocketed, hunger became an everyday friend. From what I heard, it was as if the devil himself ascended from hell to live with them and unleash all the sadness and poverty in the universe. Now its all fine and dandy in Germany. ‘Les Futures’, that’s what the papers say. Germany is the new future that all of Europe should look up too. The Fuehrer, at least that’s what they call him, reshaped the fate of Germany. They now have all this new programs and reforms. Well at least its all wonderful for the German citizens. In respect to the Jews, well let’s say if I were a Jew, I wouldn’t live in Germany.
Meanwhile in America, it is the roaring 20’s. Mon Cherie and I, well, we are not so happy anymore. She is drowning in depression and no matter what I do, I cannot get her out of it. She is still mourning the loss of her brother during the Great War. John, my good friend, asked me to come to America and partake in all its riches. Mon Dieu, I must say it is roaring in the United States. The women are beautiful and ooh lala! The flappers, that’s what they call them. With their dresses above their ankles, bob hairstyles and cherry red lips, they will dance you into fantasy. As for the money, I am making a lot of it. I got a job in wall street where John works. During the day we make our money and at night, we party our life away with Gatsby. I have arranged for my wife and children to come over here. I just bought a house and soon I will be cruising in my own car. Well that is it for now Mes amis, Goodbye!

  46. Hello everyone! I haven’t posted in a while…so I have a lot to talk about! Well the first thing I want to tell you about is the strange things that have been happening here in Italy. We have a new leader and his name is Benito Mussolini. Once he came into power, I noticed that some things began to change. The strangest of all is that there are tons of men walking around shirtless! They just don’t care at all! At first I was horrified to see what all of the men were doing… but after a little while I kind of just got used to it. It’s still a little strange to see all of the shirtless men around, especially Mussolini, considering he has named himself Il Duce. So anyways, I have a story to share with you… Last week I was eating dinner with my husband and my three kids. When all of a sudden my husband stood up, while we were all eating at the dinner table…(we were eating spaghetti and meatballs of course)…and he just took his shirt off and sat back down. I asked him what the heck he was doing and he simply responded “Well honey, I’m simply supporting our new leader Benito Mussolini.” Ugh! I was shocked that he supported Mussolini so much! However…I am also starting to like this Mussolini guy, I think he’s doing a pretty good job.

There is just this one thing about Mussolini that is throwing me off. He has introduced this new thing called ‘the battle of motherhood’. Which is basically to see which women could have the most amount of children. My personal opinion about this whole situation is a bit undecided. I mean, I understand why he wants more people, but at the same time, it seems like that’s all he cares about. Well, I’ve learned to just accept it, and I, myself, am going to try and have more children. I have decided to support Mussolini with the whole motherhood thing only because I think he is doing a good job as leader. He looked to expand, which I believe is the right thing to do, and he colonizes Albania, Ethiopia, and also other parts of Africa. So far, I have decided to trust Mussolini and I am going to go along with what he wants me to do. So now I’m going to go make my best homemade meatballs for my husband and then work on winning the battle of motherhood! Italy is just such an amazing country to live in!

  47. Pierre Thomas here and once again I am late to updating you all on France’s current situation with all of the mayhem going on around the world. In France not much is going on, but we have struggled a bit with our leader selection. We still haven’t found the leader that would bring us to greatest like Napoleon had in the pass. I am more worried about things going on in the countries with dictators in power. The two I am most worried about are Stalin and Hitler. These two men have something about them that cannot be trusted. Also in the Olympics things were going a little too well for Germany. Just well enough that I got very suspicious with what Hitler has up his sleeve. Although I hate Germany with a burning passion, after Russia backed out of WWI I do not trust them at all either. Also with these two countries both having dictators I am afraid they may try to team up and do damage to other countries around Europe. They are strong leaders even though I do not like both of the countries and I am afraid to see what they might try to do in the future. Also America needs to get their stuff together because they are a huge part of my side if a war does break out at some point, and without them and Britain, France could be in big trouble. Also although France isn’t doing great it is still better than all other countries just remember that.

  48. Life has changed a lot since I last wrote here. Hitler was named chancellor by Von Hindenburg. Once Von Hindenburg died, Hitler took complete control. No one was left standing in his way and the other countries did not see what was happening. Hitler put the Nuremburg laws into place and we, the Jewish people, lost our citizenship. We were being targeted and the Nazi party was taking over everything. My family and I considered leaving the country but it was too difficult. We would have to give up almost everything we owned and pay amounts of money we do not have anymore. We were trapped and outside countries were not very helpful or welcoming. Hitler built his army, created an air force, and expanded. These all went against the treaty of Versailles, but the League of Nations did nothing to stop them. They never did anything.

The night of Kristallnacht was when things became real. Jewish communities were attacked and destroyed. Synagogues were targeted and no one was safe. They were tearing our homes apart. Our dear friends were in their main street shop when everything happened. We never saw them again after that day. We were rounded up and sent to the ghettos. As of right now, I am still with my family living in a sectioned off part of the city. They are always taking people out in groups and taking them to places called concentration camps. We overhear the guards talking about them when we go to get food. They talk about the terrible things that happen in these camps. Things I can’t imagine. I can only hope my family will not have to go through that. Everyone in this ghetto is simply waiting for that dreaded day when they have to get on the next train. Some things in life will stay with you forever. This terrible experience will be one of them.

  49. I haven’t written to you in years, I haven’t had the time, or patience with the way my life is today. I’m a very lucky, fortunate British man. The economy in Britain has been horrid the last couple of years. Ever since America got in their Great Depression it’s been really tough for us to stay in the game with money. They stopped trading with us and we no longer get money from them. I’m fortunate because I have a job right now. I have to work in a factory. People are struggling to get food and I’m fortunate to share some tea and crumpets with my lovely wife every night. Ever since the war ended we got so close again! We are expecting to have a child soon. I’m so excited to be a father. He will be an army commander just like I was. (Like father like son). I am a little nervous to have a baby during this time of depression, but it will get my wife and I even closer. (If you know what I mean.)
Time is hard in Britain, but Germany is doing way worse. A man named Adolf Hitler, is taking control and he’s being a Fuhrer to the middle-class Germans, but he’s doing everything he can to ruin the Jews’ lives. A new guy just moved into my cottage and he was a Jew from Berlin, Germany. He needed a place to stay, and how could I say no? Weil Armstrong escaped a concentration camp, and randomly showed up at my door. He was stuck at a Berlin Camp for six months. Weil decided that life wasn’t worth living in the camps. If he got caught he would die, and he would probably die anyways. (YOLO). I still don’t know how, but he had a successful escape. I feel bad for the guy. He refuses to talk about the camps because they bring up such horrid memories. Every now and then, he brings up how he was separated from his wife and his beautiful baby girl. Ever since, I’ve done everything in my ability to help him get through this mess. Wish us luck!

  50. Hello my fellow Italians and all other of the world! It may seem like it has been forever since I have lasted posted but in reality, IT REALLY HAS BEEN FOREVER!!! So let’s start off with a recap of what has happened. So all of a sudden places in Europe have been just going and getting themselves a brand new government. Here is all mighty Italy we have a new ruler called Benito Mussolini. Though Mussolini is a better ruler than Victor Emmanuel (Mister I’m too lazy to be king) I’m not really into the whole idea of becoming a fascist state. Also Russia has become a brutal communist state with Stalin just killing everyone even the innocents. Another place that has changed is Germany, just look at how inspiring Benito has become he inspired Hitler to be the man he is. Though what is really awful is how America is in this huge depression and everyone involved with them are also falling down a steep slope along with them.
Even though all of this has been happening to the world around us my life has changed greatly over the years. I have finally gotten married to my girlfriend. We even now have two beautiful children. I also became the owner of this newspaper that I also put my blogs in and live happily in a huge house. I’ve also was able to finish my book I talked about oh so very long ago. I also was able to spend some free times in all the other major countries and Europe and I feel that disaster is about to fall upon us all once again, but even worse than it was before. So I hope of you who read this are smart enough to realized that we should all get read OR ELSE!!!!!

  51. It has been years since my last post. I may be a bit rusty. Now i have to start by saying my suspicion that Germany would start another war is out the window. This Guy Hitler has done WONDERS for Germany. He brought them out of the sewers on his back SHIRTLESS just to show how amazing he is. He has given everyone jobs, so unemployment is down a huge amount. He has helped people make enough money to go on vacations such as cruises. I want to go on a cruise! The people of Germany have no idea how lucky they are because i don't get vacations.
Actually, I do. I get a long vacation from my jobs. I was let go from my jobs and now my family is out of money. The dust bowl is sweeping through the nation and I can barely see the keys while i type this the dust is so thick. This blows (because of the winds). I an going to head west in search of a job, but many people also have that idea. I don't think i have a choice. What else is there to do? I have no money, no job, and i have to provide for my family but i can't. What can i do? There is one rich guy in town who has plenty of money but he leads to no one. What if...

Second, I want to know if you are blind because its not Hitler who has been shirtless, its Mussolini. There is quite a distinct weight difference between the two. Anyway blind man, Hitler is just playing games to fool the world. Just you wait, I bet he is going to do something horrible like, start a war or try and exterminate people who he doesn't see fit to live.

  52. Bonjour! I am very proud to announce that France has avoided the great depression! While the great depression has hit some of the weaker countries, it is no surprise that the best country has avoided such a catastrophe! And for all you countries who thought you were better than France, just look at us now! How’s industrialization now Britain? And for America, which country is suffering from the great depression and the dust bowl? And who can forget Germany? The country who thought that Hitler was going to actually help out their country! Alright, I may be getting a little carried away. While France may not have suffered from disasters such as the great depression or holocaust, we are still lacking a strong leader. Speaking of leaders, have I ever mentioned my marvelous painting of Napoleon, the greatest, strongest, handsomest leader who has ever controlled France ever, above my bed! I mean the thing is a pristine piece of art! I must look at the thing more times than I look at my wife! I could talk about Napoleon for hours but, I’m getting a little side tracked and not everyone appreciates my great love of him. But, If you would like to learn more about Napoleon and his greatness I do happen to have a blog dedicated to him. The website is www.JaquesBaudin.blogspot.com/Napoleon-our-fearless-leader.
Anyways France is lacking a strong leader and without a strong leader I fear that France will only weaken. Our government is extremely divided which will not benefit our country at all. I fear that with our country being divided that it will only lead to fights among the various groups. France needs a strong leader to lead them in the right direction and strengthen them!

  53. Dear Journal,
Hello, I guess. It's been a long time since you've been written in, hasn't it? So much has happened since I last wrote! For one thing, my book was finally published! The reviews "Dante" was given were all very positive, and it's a bestseller! I did have to quit writing for a little portion of time, simply to research information for my new novel, all about...you guessed it, II Duce! That man will lead Italy into the future! I've been to several of his rallies, and I am quite inspired. He fought so hard to obtain his current position, and he truly wants to make Italy an amazing place to live! Oh how everyone was so fired up at the rallies, everyone's faces were filled with excitement and they were all coming together to make change in this great country. I do have to depart, there II Duce is going to make an announcement in the square today, and I simply do not want to miss it! Until next time journal!

    -YEARS LATER-
    Dear Journal,
It seems I have even less time than before to write! I decided to give "Dante" the backseat for now, and fight the battle of motherhood. Before I can do that, I still must find a suitable husband. Though finding someone that both me and my mother can agree on is a bit tough ha-ha. I do understand she wants me to have the perfect husband, but I'm just hoping to find him soon so that I can help Italy in the one way I, as a woman, can. I've been looking everywhere, and even have had several outings with men, and you do not know what I have had to go through! There was this one man, who said he didn't like spaghetti! How does an ITALIAN not like ITALIAN FOOD!? Don't even get me started on that man who said Garibaldi wasn't influential in Italy's history, or the man who kept saying woman should just stay at home and please their husbands. The nerve of some people! Woman should be helping the state, not your individual needs! I may want to help my country, but I do have standards, and with that kind of talk, I refuse to have a conversation with such an unintelligent twit.
I did go to the Olympics in Germany a few months ago, and I must say, everything there seems marvelous! Hitler seems like a great leader, and I heard unemployment has gone down quite drastically since the beginning of his reign! All the people there were very kind, and one elderly woman told me of how her life is so much better and how her daughter and grandchildren are doing splendid in this country. She had the biggest smile on her face as well, it was lovely talking to her.
I have heard that in America lately everything has gone terribly wrong. It seems that many people have lost their jobs and have barely any money. That is quite terrible, I am so glad I do not have to live in such a horrid circumstance! Italy is doing swell! We even have the men fighting for colonies in Africa. I'm sure they'll defeat Ethiopia and show them how much stronger we are now compared to our first battle with them. Oh look at the time! I must get ready to meet with Simon, he is a colleague of mine. He is partly British, but he's as Italian as lasagna! Until the next entry, journal!

  54. It is I , Maximillian Swartz here to tell you about my secret journey across the world to America and how I went to try the long awaited Doritos Locos Taco and what else is happening in Germany as well. Back to the story now, it was a late night and I snuck onto a ship that I stole and drove into America. I was scared, there was people rioting and complaining about a Great Depression. After I got past all of that, I reached it, it was as perfect as one of those golden goose eggs from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Then I ordered it, just saying Doritos Locos Tacos was extraordinary. I got it then I sat down and took the first bite and I was like Angry german kid.
_. (go to 3:55 and watch from there) then I got kicked out and was shipped back to Germany. Now those were the glory days. So, my family is doing well, Jerden is going to college to be a lawyer and my two other daughters are good as well.
Germany is doing great, we have cruises, holidays, vacations, and a very cool car, even if the idea was stolen from a Jew, and it’s still good. Adolf Hitler is to be thanks for this. He is a great chancellor although he has many flaws. He and the Nazi party are doing some secret stuff. While I was walking home from work, I saw what looked like to be a ghetto with Jews as prisoners. With WW1 over, we can have some time to ourselves. With the Great Depression in America, it has affected almost everyone. We can now not pay France and Britain our war debts which also means that those countries cant trade because they have little to no $. This is good and bad. Hitler has been building up our army from 100,000 to over 1.3 million. We are now literally building up an ayrian race like me and my family. I read in the news that Germany is thinking in going to war with our enemies since they are struggling. We, on the other hand are living the good life. Everyone has jobs and now has a meaning to our society. Since we are a fascist government, we want to make everyone else fascist too. In the end, all will be good…..for us.

  56. Well mates, it’s been quite some time since we last had a little chat. Since then, if you ask me, the world has gone to shambles. After the war, which we won and shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, things were supposed to be great. Now look it, everyone is in an economic depression and as much as people hate to say it, war is brewing. That’s right and we Brits, or at least I am, ready for it. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I, Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot , have been promoted to captain of my own ship. Her name is the S.S Linda, nicknamed the crooked-teeth. She is a massive destroyer with six anti-aircraft guns mounted along the deck. Capability of firing four torpedo’s at once. Top speed, thirty-six knots. She is one of the fastest ships in her category. As long as we are on the topic of new things, I also had a son. Named him Jonathan Fiddlesfiled Cobblepot the II, after my dear old father who passed away a week before he was born.
Anyway, back to the state of the world. Yes, I will admit it, we along with the other common countries have fallen into a slight economic depression, more like a down turn. It hasn’t affected me yet though because I’m with the military and have a firm position among the ranks. Although, I have seen some drastic cut backs with regards to the crew. Personally, I’m pro war. I think it would quickly lift a lot of countries out of their depression. Plus, it would give me a chance to demonstrate my true power and captain. The only problem, I don’t want us Brits to be the instigators of this war. I would much prefer it to be the scummy Germans or those gumba’s the Italians. Oh, how those arrogant Italians and their “fascisti” agitate me. Their leader claims he and his followers ran all the way to Rome, he probably couldn’t run from his bed to the kitchen to get his mid midnight meal. Also, I wouldn’t mind those savage Russians started this war either. Communism just disgusts me. Everyone should work for their pay and that’s that. You shouldn’t be working to “support your country,” you should be working to support your family and yourself. Not to mention, that Stalin fellow has a bigger nose than the Italian chap Mussolini.
